2021 Camp Information
We will be running a series of open air minicamps with COVID protocols this summer. The structure of these camps will be a little unique. Our goal is to develop every campers wrestling as much as humanly possible in the 4 days of camp. We will have 1 master clinician for all 4 days. We are working to keep the ratio of camp staff to camper 8 to 1. We will only be hosting 40 wrestlers per camp. All camps will be commuter camps with a 9 AM - 2:30 PM tentative schedule. The sample camp schedule is as follows:
8:30 AM - 9 AM Drop Off
9 AM - 11:30 AM Wrestling Session 1
11:30 AM - 12:15 PM Lunch
12:15 PM - 2:30 PM Wrestling Session 2
2:30 PM - 3 PM Pick Up
For all of our minicamps Austin Solari will be our on site camp director and Daniel McCune will be running everything off site. You can email questions to mccune@sunnyvalewrestlingclub.com.
PHILOSOPHY
Black Sheep Wrestling Camps has always been reluctant to bring in clinicians without coaching experience. We see many camps and clinics full of current college wrestlers who haven’t spent a day working on developing any wrestlers beyond themselves. We don’t believe that they should be working camps as clinicians yet (and it is a violation of their amateur status). So, we focus on bringing in coaches from around the country that have experience developing wrestlers at the highest levels of the sport. College wrestlers staff our camps as counselors in order to act as assistants to our clinicians and learn along side the campers. This year we are taking that philosophy a step further by bringing our clinicians in for all 4 days and reducing our group to 40 kids so that our master clinicians can work to see the development in the athlete’s wrestling after the 4 days is over. The 8 weeks of camp we have scheduled this year are intended to increase your wrestling skill in a way that isn’t lost in the months that follow during fall sports. We are working to ensure there is comprehension of the improvements to a degree that they are ingrained in the athletes wrestling.
CAMP STAFF
Each camp will have a master clinician who will be leading instruction. That clinician will be supported by the Camp Director and Counselors who will be on site every day of camp.
